Distance: 16 km Duration: 6–8 hours Elevation Gain: 2,000m The trek starts at Momella Gate with a park ranger (due to wildlife presence). The route passes through lush forests and open grasslands, where you may spot giraffes, buffaloes, warthogs, and colobus monkeys. Instead of staying at Miriakamba Hut (2,500m) as in the 4-day trek, climbers push directly to Saddle Hut (3,500m), making this day more strenuous. In the afternoon, an optional acclimatization hike to Little Meru (3,820m) helps prepare for the summit attempt.
Distance: 18 km (round trip) Duration: 10–12 hours Elevation Gain: 1,066m (to the peak) Summit day begins at midnight or early morning with a steep ascent via Rhinoceros Point (3,800m). The trail follows a narrow, rocky ridge with dramatic drops on both sides. The final climb involves scrambling to Socialist Peak (4,566m), where you’ll witness a stunning sunrise over Kilimanjaro and the crater rim. After celebrating at the summit, the descent follows the same route to Saddle Hut for a short break, then continues to Miriakamba Hut (2,500m) for overnight rest.
Distance: 10 km Duration: 3–5 hours The final day is a gentle descent through lush montane forests, with an opportunity to visit Tululusia Waterfall before reaching Momella Gate. Here, climbers receive summit certificates before returning to Arusha or Moshi.
