Volcanoes National Park

Introduction

Volcanoes National Park, located in northwestern Rwanda, is one of Africa’s most famous wildlife conservation areas. Established in 1925, it is Rwanda’s oldest national park and is best known for being home to the endangered mountain gorillas. The park spans 160 square kilometers and is part of the Virunga Mountains, a volcanic range shared by Rwanda, Uganda, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

The park features five of the eight Virunga volcanoes:

Best Time to Visit
